🔍 How to Test Your Controller for Stick Drift
- Connect your gamepad via USB or Bluetooth to your computer.
- Open this page — the tester will automatically detect your controller when you press any button.
- Move each analog stick and release it to the center. Watch the drift meter on each joystick card.
- Interpret results: Green (<15%) = healthy. Yellow (15-30%) = moderate drift. Red (>30%) = severe drift.
Hall Effect vs. Potentiometer Analog Sticks
Understanding your joystick technology helps you choose a more durable controller.
| Feature | Hall Effect (Magnetic) | Potentiometer (Resistive) |
|---|---|---|
| Drift resistance | Very high (no physical contact) | Low (contact wears out) |
| Lifespan | Millions of cycles | ~2 million cycles |
| Precision | Excellent, linear | Good, but degrades |
Our tester works with both types and can detect drift issues regardless of technology.
